  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar optional
  • ½ cup 1 stick cold, grated butter
  • ¾ cup cold milk or buttermilk

  1. Preheat the Oven: Heat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Incorporate Butter: Grate the cold butter directly into the dry ingredients. Toss lightly to coat.
  4. Add Milk: Pour in the milk gradually, stirring gently until the dough just comes together.
  5. Create Layers: Turn the dough onto a floured surface, pat it into a rectangle, and fold it over itself 2-3 times for flaky layers.
  6. Cut Biscuits: Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out rounds. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush the tops with melted butter for extra flavor.
